Review on Aurora AU1217XB 12 Sheet Professional Crosscut by Brian Avila

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Seven years old and still going strong!

I decided to write a short review today just because I looked at the listing and saw some negative reviews with comments like "died after a year" and "doesn't work properly". . First, let me say that this is not a full-size shredder - it's not designed for heavy office work, more geared towards the home user. I use it in my home office and it's great. It is used almost every day, maybe ten to twelve sheets. Its cross sections are about two inches long. Mine is now seven years old and still going strong. Every few months I'd put a sheet of oil through it (frying oil works great) and cleaned, mmm. Well, not really often, but it works well even with this low maintenance. I only had one problem with it and that happened today. It continued to work (set to automatic) after the paper passed. It took me five minutes online to find the model on Aurora's website (much quicker than trying to figure out where my wife hid it—I mean, keep it safe). There was no blockage that I could see, so they assumed the sensor was dirty. And it really was. Thirty seconds of work with a cotton swab and everything became shiny again. For those wondering, the sensor sits a few inches lower in the center of the feed slot. You will see two small plexiglass panes facing each other. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance and you'll be fine. Highly recommended.
