Unscrew the base, plug the cord into your phone charger and it goes into jump mode. Pull out the battery remote and either choose a color or change the effect mode. The brightness controls are designed for consistent colors. In the effect modes, the brightness keys are used to adjust the speed. I like the third mode best, I can't tell the other 3 apart. If you switch it off with the remote control, it saves the settings. When disabled or turned off, it starts in jump mode. Had an interesting effect on some watercolors. Doesn't have wifi app. indoors only
