I bought this light on a whim because I often accidentally left my backyard light on and wanted an indicator light to tell me when it was on. I really had no idea if I could make it work. As there are two doors leading to the terrace, the switches have 3 positions. The only 3 position switches with indicator lights I could find turned the light on when the power was turned off, which was exactly the opposite of what I wanted. So I took the chance that I could make it fit. Well I broke a few switch plates before successfully drilling the required 1/2" hole but the results are excellent. The light is bright enough to be seen during the day but not intrusive at night. I wired it to turn on when the backyard is on, whichever of the two switches turns it on. Now I'm much less likely to accidentally leave the backyard lights on.
