Burns out too quickly

I had one like this (100w version) that lasted less than 6 weeks and had a maximum of 10 hours on on any given day and some days it didn't all work. I hung it next to a plush rug for an elderly cat who roams around my home office but doesn't last long on hardwood floors, so it was treated better than it was sold. As others have said, there is no "on" indicator, and the cage wraps so tightly around the bulb that it can easily set fire to objects that are too close to it.
