I love being able to go beyond autoranging and my two GRENLEE DM-200's. My very old Micront 22-185a radio shop doesn't have autoranging. The auto range is fine, but there are times when you get more accurate readings when you're outside of the auto range. So far I've tested both DC voltage and ohms/resistance of my radio shop model and they've been very close. I thought the backlight would be good, but it also includes a built-in flashlight. As mine came without instructions I'm not sure if both are always on, if so it's just wasting battery and I can live without it. It also takes longer to reach zero when using ohms. Likewise with switching functions on my GREENLEE. I have this as a backup and for the temporary read function and am hoping the lid reading works, neither of the two I have have this function. I could live without the beep every time you turn the control knob. The worst part is putting the battery in. You can't snap the contacts of a 9 volt battery without holding the short wire contact with something and it's unsafe and the power will be cut off. I haven't used it to do actual testing just to see if what I use most of the time works with DC voltage and resistance, and I'm using current draws that I haven't tested yet. I checked out some DVOMs on Revain and this one didn't have many reviews but they were all good and it was in my price range. If I could afford a Fluke, I would go for that. This in no way means that cheaper brands are not good enough. Seems like even if I spent three times as many reviews I'd still find enough bad ones to put me off. I'm just being honest here, the rating can be all that matters is how the product performs in your world. I wrote a letter to the manufacturer with a question about the warranty and the seller. I would like to add that I contacted the seller 4 times, each time with a different problem, each time the same day or the next. I was emailed the manual and specs considering the warranty period and asked if there were any other settings besides autoranging. I'm not sure if the seller knows, but it's worth getting at least an answer and a constant invitation to ask whatever I want. Not that I have money to throw away if that meter goes down, I haven't lost much but it would still be disappointing. I've used voltmeters/ohmmeters long before there was digital and I still have an old one from the radio store, both for car repairs over 45 years old and for building tube guitar amps and checking AC circuits around the house. Dropped my old DVOM Radio Shack and the screen went blank, then it kinda recovered and works as good as ever. The main thing I don't like is the way the battery is installed, it didn't have to be done that way, there are other options, I just hope it lasts a long time before I have to try to get it. Just don't try to pull it out or you might find very short wires going to the board.
