I bought this switch to protect the long, thick wire that powers the fuse box in my classic truck. It was installed next to the battery so that a short in that wire would not start a fire. I never tested its ability to open the circuit in the event of a short, but while my truck was in the driveway recovering, it functioned as a switch. That is, the circuit was open when the black button was pressed and closed when the red lever was closed. However, on the first movement of the truck (towing about 100 miles) this breaker broke. Now it is open in both positions. Even with the engine off, it obviously couldn't withstand the vibrations in the engine compartment of a moving truck. Faulty circuit protection in high current circuits is dangerous. In my case, opening this circuit would mean loss of engine power (and therefore brake booster), lights, windshield wipers, etc. While this is almost always preferable to a fire, false alarms (i.e. open circuit breaker in the presence of a lack of current overload) are unacceptable. If you need a high amperage circuit breaker, buy one you can count on.
