Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well until the fragile aluminum handles bend!

I am building a house and use it often with the DCS577B. I had to tear the plywood into strips for the sheathing and it worked great for the first step of cutting. Push down on the guide bar before cutting the blade and you'll get a near-perfect straight cut. It takes a little practice and a feel from my experience, but once you get it right the cuts will be quick. The problem is that the first time the guide hits or falls off when attached to the saw. The moment this happens, based on semi-accurate measurements, your guidewire is fully bent. The two guides attached to the shoe of the circular saw bend very easily. Too light for a tool used on mobile construction machinery. I managed to smooth mine out a bit but it doesn't work that well when new. I know, be careful, but if you work with it every day, eventually it will fall, hit, and then bend. In my opinion it is not reliable enough for this type of tool. Maybe less flexible metal arms would be a solution?

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Nothing here
