Not sure if there is a connection or not but I bought this cat tree 8 days ago. My cat liked it and was constantly sitting in the downstairs apartment. I did notice that it had a really weird chemical smell, but I thought maybe I was worrying too much. Last night my cat started getting cramps all over her body. They walked all night without a break, one after the other. I took her to the vet at 7am today and they said they would recommend euthanasia. They said the test would cost thousands of dollars and their prognosis was not good because of the many seizures, tachycardias, arrhythmias and fluid buildup in the gut. I lost my baby this morning. I've since read online about seizures and toxic chemicals. Like I said, I have no proof that the chemicals in the scratching post made her sick, but she did get sick after I got the tree. I am devastated by her loss and she had no prior health issues.
