Aluminum mount is fine. The Allen key that came with it is junk. It was rounded off until the screws were fully tightened. However, it's okay. When installing rubber inserts, it's a bit difficult to get around the pipe and tighten the bolts, but the rubber is soft enough to push through. Once you start the first bolt everything is fine. However, soft rubber does not provide a reliable grip. With the insert it rotates very easily around the stem of my rear rack (Honda Rubicon) when both halves of the clamp are tightened so that they touch. I also cut and pasted the rubber strip and it still turns easier than I would like. Where the two halves meet, it tightens again and the rubber insert sticks out to the side. Maybe a stronger rubber would hold up better, but it would be harder to work with and the small screws could come loose. Not sure if it will stay in place when hopping the trails. I set two of them to hang down and a 7 inch light bar in between. I chose these because I didn't want to drill my rack. If you could just use a thin strip of rubber you could. They don't work very well for lightbars that have legged mounts, especially the NilightLight. The mount's leg hangs down and the included rubber pad prevents tipping. I would give him 5 stars. That it doesn't quite match my lightbar mount isn't a big deal, just worth mentioning.
