Stylish and quiet! - Lighting and ceiling fans

I have a small office that needs air circulation, but I also work in this office all day and the fan noise can't be a problem. Problem. Also, my office only has 8-foot ceilings, so a relatively low-profile flush-mount fan was a must. Suffice it to say that finding a fan that fits the requirements and looks really good was not an easy task. This fan is exactly what I was hoping for, with one small caveat. Love the in-wall remote, it works exceptionally well and looks amazing! Don't be embarrassed by the description as it was with me - this does NOT come with a handheld remote - if you want one you will need to purchase it separately. The fan itself juts down about 18 inches, so it sits relatively close to the ceiling. It's also incredibly quiet in 1st and 2nd gear (both directions of rotation). Speed 3 ejects some crazy air, but that speed makes a little noise - not an unbalanced pop, but a hiss from so much air moving. The vanes are shaped to be concave, so they also help move the air. All in all, this is a great ceiling fan! I am very impressed. The only thing that didn't make me jump for joy was that the blades were plastic. For what it's worth I was really expecting wood. They don't look cheap or anything so it's secondary. Just don't be surprised when you open the box and find the following. Also, the remote control of this fan needs to be connected to the wall. So if you don't want to do any electrical work, you'll need to have it installed by a professional. It's not that easy to put the fan where the light used to be - the switch needs to be replaced entirely with what Minka provides to control the device, so this is probably one of the more difficult ceiling fan installs. . It's worth it, but perhaps worth mentioning for those who do household chores but aren't comfortable with more invasive electrical work.

Pros
  • CONSTRUCTION: Designed for indoor and outdoor use, the traditional Minka-Aire concept combines great style with weather-resistant materials. This fan has a pewter finish with three dark maple blades
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
