Replacement Fuel Delivery Unit

I replaced the fuel delivery unit in my Jeep CJ with this unit along with a compatible fuel gauge, temperature sensor and temperature delivery unit. Works perfectly . The hardest part was resetting and reinstalling the fuel tank, but this has been done many times on cars. Do yourself a favor and drain the tank, just because it's a 15-gallon tank and it may not be full doesn't make it any easier to rig the skid plate back onto the Jeep. Before removing the old block, use a compressed block to remove any debris. This is the best way. Just keep dirt out of the fuel tank opening for the transmitter. You will work more. Remove rust from the transmitter unit installation site to easily install the transmitter unit, rubber gasket and retaining ring. I advise you to replace the snap ring and rubber gasket, but my snap ring has rusted beyond recognition and the rubber gasket has become unusable. Use liquid foil, lithium grease spray or whatever you want to prevent in the future as this area is vulnerable to water ingress at all times and in all environments. Apply a good electrical wiring lubricant to the transmitter wire studs to ensure a secure connection and prevent corrosion and future fuel gauge malfunctions. I used the red grease to install the battery terminals, works fine. You should take these precautions because you (hopefully) only want to do this work once. Not the worst job, but make sure to spray the skid plate mounting nuts and bolts very well with penetrating oil for the best chance of removal or you'll end up cutting them off and replacing them. That's the worst. Prying the skid plate onto the mounting bolts is another task to look forward to, although the status quo is with the fuel tank straps as well. Enjoy your new fuel gauge as it doesn't usually work on older jeeps. Get it right, which is why we decided to rip the tank off in the first place.
