I have a 32 inch TV that weighs about 9 pounds and is attached to it. The bracket is then attached to the wall intended for the TV space in my caravan. I got this on purpose because it uses short screws to attach it to the thin walls of the caravan. Although my wall is at least as wide as the length of the mounting screws, once the screws are tightened they go through the wall and end up sticking out a bit. My guess is that tightening the screws pulls the plywood of the mounting wall together to achieve this. Luckily the back of the wall in my caravan is well hidden (sliding door part) but it's just something that any DIY enthusiast should keep in mind.
