Review on Thunder Men's Athletic Shoes: New Balance Minimus Trainer for Enhanced Performance by Daniel Casper

Minimus is not a minimalist

I was looking for "minimalist" shoes that I can walk barefoot in. Coming from the Merrell Vapor Glove 2, I found the NB MX20V6 felt more like a regular athletic shoe than barefoot. Don't get me wrong, this shoe falls somewhere between an average athletic shoe and the true barefoot experience. The. What I particularly disliked about the NB MX20V6 is: Arch support: It has this hard cleat in the arch, it's not even a comfortable cleat, maybe smaller than a regular athletic shoe, but it's still there. This prevents the arch of the foot from fully flexing as it does when walking barefoot as this can cause the muscles in the foot to develop differently/unnaturally and some people believe this unnatural development can eventually lead to overuse injuries. Heel up: I would say maybe 1 inch above the forefoot, which is less than normal for other athletic shoes, but more than barefoot. The problem is that this encourages heel strikes, which are generally considered a less efficient form of running than forefoot or midfoot strikes. Sole Lining: This is way too much as I'm used to not feeling springy and springy when I run. it's a bit with these shoes. This bouncing actually contributes to vertical oscillation, which means you're wasting extra energy moving in the vertical direction instead of directing it in the horizontal direction. There is a positive side to this though, and running something like a road with a hammer gives you some comfort as the rocks aren't snug against your legs. Rigid Sole: The sole is rigid and pushes your foot into the standard flat position when you step off the foot. I'm sticking with these shoes as "everyday hiking shoes". . However, I don't like these running shoes, I will look for something else for a minimalist running shoe.

Pros
  • Great shoes! light weight and works great for weightlifting and running.
Cons
  • May not be suitable for people with plantar fasciitis.
