We received both the Mystery Museum and the Polar Station for Christmas. I'm writing the same review for both games, but I rate them differently. We're not used to quests. We made some personal and some home versions. In the past we used the Escape from the room brand, but this year we switched to Exit the game. In the review I will also compare two brands and two games. When you play the "Escape" brand, you have a timer that stops, just like in a real escape room. With the Exit brand, you start a stopwatch to keep track of your time and you can work as long as you like. The "Escape" brand has a decoder that you insert keys into at the end of the game to "escape". Exit games have codes that you find out as you progress, and there can be more than one in each game. We've never had any problems, but other The Escape Games reviewers have said they had problems with the decoder not working. There will be no problem if exit games have similar problems. Entering the wrong code in the escape games will waste you time while in the exit games you can try the code again and again without penalty. Trust me, you'll want to at least try to figure out the code, not just guess random numbers. In escape games you wait a certain amount of time before you can use clue cards, which may or may not help you, but there is no penalty for using them. You can always use clue cards in escape games, although there is a penalty depending on whether it helped or not. With Escape Games, you can erase everything you've written on and give the game to someone else to play. In exit games you destroy things, so one game and you're done. Nobody else can play it. Overall, I liked the "Exit" game install better, but that's a personal preference. As for the two games we got, thank goodness we played Mystery Museum first. Has a medium rating. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't too difficult either. While some clues could take a while, we were eventually able to figure them out and they made sense. It was fun to play. That's why I give 4 stars. On the other hand, the polar station wasn't that fun. It has an increased rating and an additional "point" on the difficulty scale. It was much more difficult. We were surprised that it was only one point higher and not two. The Mystery Museum was linear, but it was everywhere. We often used cue cards. There were times when we had to go all the way to a solution (there were three cards for each code, with the solution on the last one) and we could see ourselves coming to that conclusion even though it required a lot of jumping. In one case, even after we saw the solution and the explanation, it still didn't make sense. We are no fools but instead of having fun we were all disappointed. That's why there are only 2 stars.
