I received this monitor today and have been using it for several hours. I usually wait before writing a review but thought it might be helpful to others as my setup is a bit different than most. I'll edit it if anything happens in the future. I use this monitor (P2415Q) as a secondary monitor on iMac 5k (Retina), both OSX (El Capitan) and Windows 10 (Bootcamp). 24" is a bit over the top here, but I wanted HiDPI because I don't have the ability to use a non-Retina monitor alongside the awesome iMac screen and manufacturers are so attached to 4K for some reason. a label that they don't make smaller ones with a very high PPI. However. I chose this one for a number of reasons. The main ones are: - Ultra HD, the same quality as a Retina screen. ) , which means the monitor is treated as one regular monitor and not two side-by-side, which is a common trick used by many 4K monitors to circumvent physical limitations. Less important but nice to have: - It's Dell. You can think what you want about Dell, but they're actually very good at monitors. - Semi-matte screen. Hooray! - Plenty of USB ports. Although it occupies one USB port on your iMac, you get 3 additional USB ports. 3.0 for your concerns. All necessary cables are included in the scope of delivery. It supports portrait mode. While this can be cumbersome on a 24-inch 16:9 monitor, it's also useful at times. First impression - looks good. Frames are ok. Overall, the workmanship is very good, it looks solid and well made. I'm using it on a VESA stand so I haven't looked closely at the stand, but again it's solid and looks like most Dell stands. I like this option and know that it's fully adjustable (height, tilt and pan) if needed. VESA Mount: Screws included. Thank you Dell Installed and connected in a maximum of 5 minutes. - It's light enough not to drag down my stand arm, and it's easy to adjust and move. Detection The monitor was automatically detected when I plugged it in - I didn't even restart the iMac. Recognized as the P2415Q, the resolution is spot on, the refresh rate is 60Hz and well, you plug it in and it just works. stunning. One thing really surprised me: It works the same way in Windows 10 in Bootcamp. I was a little concerned about this, but I just started Windows and the monitor worked, automatically set to max resolution and 60Hz. There was nothing for me to do either. Portrait mode "just works" in both operating systems. All in all, I was expecting a bit of work, but everything was set up and done once I connected the monitor to the network. iMac Image and Text Quality As I'm already very used to Retina, I didn't get the "wow" factor that many of you have. But it's as good as you would expect. Text is very sharp, crisp and legible even at 3840 x 2160 resolution. The only thing is that it's not very bright and you have to play with the settings a bit. Next to the iMac, the standard whites are a lot less white and they're clearly not as bright even when set to 100% (probably a side effect of the semi-matte finish). But the resolution is great. Please note that I mainly work with text, so I cannot and will not comment on photos and colors - not my subject. Conclusion: You want a HiDPI monitor but can't afford it or don't want to If you don't have the space for a 27-inch screen, don't hesitate to get one. If you have a 27 inch screen do the following: 3860 x 2160 on a 24 inch screen will give you very small text and icons. While it's very readable, most people will have to play around with it. scaling settings. If you do, be aware that many applications, especially on Windows, don't handle this very well yet. Windows itself can handle it, but some applications don't scale well. There is no problem on Mac as Retina has been around for 3 years now and Apple has been pushing everyone to tweak their software.
