Review on 🔧 Ingersoll Rand ARO R37341-600-VS Air Regulator 1/2" NPT with Gauge - 250 psi Max Inlet, Black/Gray by Travis Rio

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Top notch design and construction

Possibly the best regulator I have ever seen. If I have one complaint, it's that the sensor feels small. However, this is not surprising. It is built into the controller and the whole unit is quite small. However, this is a small complaint. Everything is well labeled and legible and I am most impressed with everything else about it. I use a 30 gallon oil lubricated auto compressor for airbrushing. That's probably too much, but for 5 minutes of noise I get 2-3 hours of quiet work. Unfortunately, my compressor used up one regulator per year, although the last one only lasted 2 months. They work great at 40 pounds and can even work well at higher pressures. But sooner or later, if I push the pressure to 80 or 90 pounds to inflate a tire, it all fails. As you know, a regulator typically costs between $20 and $60. It's worrying. The regulators I bought from big box stores seem very cheap. Their performance was lackluster due to several pounds of pressure loss when I actually started spraying. I've also had spare regulators that failed right out of the box. Not good! For most actual mistakes, I've learned by now that the key is to increase and decrease the pressure slowly—slower than me. Increasing and releasing the pressure too quickly puts undue stress on the springs and seals. But pressure and quality issues are still an issue and I still needed a new regulator. So I went with this one because IR is a reputable brand, it looked good and the price was right. I'm happy to report that this is an excellent device and apparently at a bargain price. Other sites charge $40-$50 for the same unit. First, it's a very nice modular design. Secondly, all the details seem well made and perfectly matched. To adjust the inner band of the range, you must carefully remove the front case. It snaps open exposing the sensor assembly. You then move the yellow arrows as desired to set the print area. Put the case back in place and all is well. If you want the push button on top, remove the housing, loosen a few screws, carefully rotate the gauge assembly 180 degrees, change the screws, and replace the housing. Ready! After installation I found that the regulator had very little pressure drift - maybe a pound or two. Very happy! After visiting the IR website I found that the company recommends installing a debris/water filter between the air source and the regulator. No standard consumer compressor I've seen has this and I've noticed a build up of contaminants in a pair of my worn out regulators. So it seems reasonable and I will soon install a good filter bank to better protect my regulator. I recommend it as a very good controller at a bargain price. I expect it to perform better and last longer than any other regulator I've tried. I will try to post updates over time. Thank you for reading.
