Review on πŸ”’ Stant Regular Locking Fuel Cap, Black: Secure Your Fuel with Style by Rene Putman

Working but different from other caps

When I first put the key in I thought the cap must be defective because I couldn't turn the cap freely and the key didn't turn very far . With a little force I finally got it ok. It doesn't work quite as I expected. How it works: The only function of the key is to snap the lid open so the cap can be removed. The key only turns about 1/3 turn counter-clockwise and doesn't feel like a regular lock, more like something is stuck in the cover. The cover can now be unscrewed. No key is required to re-lock. To relock the cover, insert it into the socket and turn clockwise until it clicks a few times. It takes some effort to get it to the click point, and it can be difficult if you have arthritis or another similar physical condition. If you think you're turning hard enough but aren't getting any clicks, turn harder. At this point the cap should be locked. Check this by trying to unscrew the cover. When it comes out, plug it in again and make more clicks than last time. I would give five stars if it took less effort to latch the lid. The instructions help too. FYI, this was installed on a 2006 Tacoma. Another brand of earlier cap I had received from NAPA a few years earlier was finicky when fully tightened and regularly gave error codes that caused the check engine light to go out due to improper sealing. For the past month it has regularly come out all the way and fallen to the bottom when I opened the lid. If I have the same problem with this brand I will update my comments here.
