Review on πŸ“ OWC 2.0TB Mercury Elite Pro Desktop Storage: High-Speed 7200RPM eSATA/FW800/FW400/USB3.1 Solution by David Monaco

Revainrating 5 out of 5

fantastic body Solid, slim and powerful.

When I came across this case I was looking for a Mac case (FireWire 800) that could support large 3-4TB hard drives. There aren't many devices from established brands like OWC, but FireWire 800 has always been hard to find except in Mac-oriented products. However, I'm glad I found it; It was easy to set up, looks great next to my MacBook Pro, and all 4TB was ready to go right out of the box. Some people may need to reformat their hard drives depending on the previous condition/usage of the drive. I did not do it. For those of you wondering (as I did before I bought it), I'm running Mac OS 10.9.0 on a Late 2011 15" MacBook Pro (2.5GHz QC i7) and I'm running everything over FireWire 800 out. So be it. This drive is also known for connecting other FireWire drives fairly well via a second FireWire 800 port. While I probably won't be using the included USB 3.0 or eSATA ports any time soon, I will eventually upgrade my Mac. In addition, the blue LED on the front is incredibly bright and works more like a night light than a nighttime power indicator. Just for your information. Not critical, but noticeable in a dark room.

Pros
  • Great
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
