WD seems to normally make very weak USB cables for these drives. They are not designed to be moved or used in any way that could pull the cord. A slight strain, mind you, for not tugging on the cords or mishandling them. Thing is, the faulty cable shorts out and unplugs the drive while it's still plugged in. It's not something you want to happen on a regular basis and I already have a 3TB green WD that's screwed up due to the same flimsy cable they insist on. use. I bought this 3TB in 2014. I got this 12TB this year and they have the same problem. To ensure my drive remains usable, I disabled it. That means I removed it from the case. Now it's sitting in the Sabrent dock and the cable that comes with it is definitely not as flimsy as the wd. The performance of the drive itself is phenomenal. But WD needs to work on its cables.
