💾 12TB WD Easystore Black External USB 3.0 Hard Drive Review

I bought the 12TB size. The packaging says 12 TB, but only 10.95 TB can be used when formatted. To me it looks like it's just an 11TB drive in an enclosure. That's good enough for my use, I just feel like it should have been listed as 11TB instead of 12. I haven't looked at how it's partitioned in Disk Management yet, but I don't know why the entire TB should be invisible to my system.

I am a professional photographer and I use external drives to back up my WD network server. So far I've used a couple of WD Mybook 8 and/or 10 drive drives which are good but not big enough. This drive offers good storage, but if it were slower it would be a tortoise. What would normally take a day or so to back up requires a week of non-stop work. It seems to be at least 5 times slower.

So far, so good. A bit slow for today's performances, the capacity is modern. It's definitely not 7200 rpm. Forget it. That's 5700 rpm (still not the fastest write speed in this class). these are made for everyone. If not, this will be another fall in design and/or QA/QC.

I gave this drive 5 stars because it works great. It's quick and easy to use. However, I was a little disappointed as it was supposed to be a 12TB drive and only had 10.9TB available on it. I was so surprised I checked the box to make sure they sent the right one. WD seems to normally make very weak USB cables for these drives. They are not designed to be moved or used in any way that could pull the cord. A slight strain, mind you, for not tugging on the cords or mishandling them. Thing is, the faulty cable shorts out and unplugs the drive while it's still plugged in.
