Review on MFC-J470DW Wireless Inkjet All-in-One Printer with Auto Document Feeder by Oliver Waiker

Win8.1 wireless installation is very difficult, hard cable connection is very easy

Received the printer on time and unpacked, everything was going fine until I went to network setup. The printer showed that it was connected to my network, but when I tried to search for it via the add printer dialog, nothing showed up, none of my printers showed up in response to the search! I couldn't see the Brother printer from any device in the house. Eventually I gave up on the wireless setup and just hard-wired the printer to my desktop. I've been trying for 2 days to get the wifi working. I tried both wizards several times and finally tried to connect the printer to the network using the WPS/AOSS method (press and hold the WPS button on my router/access point). I finally found what was causing my problem (I think). The operating system on the desktop is Win 8.1, but I always switch to the Windows desktop emulation, which looks like I'm on a Win 7 desktop. On this Win 7 twin, I've tried to run the setup and the printer to no avail add my network. I was finally able to connect the printer to my network wirelessly when I went into the native Windows 8.1 interface (Tile) to add the printer. appear on the right side of the screen. In the search box on the Charms bar, type advanced printer settings and click Search. Voila! This launched the add printer dialog which had previously searched for printers and found nothing on a Win 7 desktop emulation. This time the search result showed my new Brother printer on my network. I selected it and added it to my desktop as a network printer with no problems!
