It's called an "age opener". Well my wife and I are the same age as the Junior Hills and we both had the same issue with the owner's manual. The instruction manual doesn't say anything about it, but this thing comes with a clear piece of plastic wrapped around the front of the cutting blade. There is a short message printed in black on the clear plastic, telling you to remove it before using the cutter. The black imprint is in front of two black areas on the metal body. It's very easy to overlook the plastic part (we didn't) before attempting to use the cutter. After 3 failed attempts at cutting, we were about to return the item when my wife held it up for a closer look. Only then did we see the piece of plastic, and even then we had to tear it off (not very easily) before we could read the message. The thing cuts beautifully, but there's no excuse for skipping an important step from the instructions. Without it would have been 5 stars; Thought I'd give it a 3 but settled on a 4. IMO this thing isn't really for seniors.
