Possible fix for poor performance after a few months of use.

Like many others, I really liked the can opener when it was new, but after months/years of daily use, cans wouldn't open without a few passes. And doing multiple passes has resulted in people complaining about tiny metal shavings. So I decided to take the opener apart (4 screws on the back) and see if I could find a way to fix it. In short, the red arrow in the picture points to the cutting assembly. The blade is stationary, but at the same time round. The black arrow points to the screw that…

Great can opener, read the instructions!

I read many reviews before purchasing this can opener. It seems like some people just didn't bother to read the directions, or they just shouldn't have bought anything with nutrition. Many reviews say this can opener makes metal shavings. If you don't use it properly, then yes it will. The splinters are caused by the can opener not stopping after a full rotation. It's in the instructions. I also saw a customer complain that the cord was very short. Well, the cord goes in and out of the bottom…

4 stars is a compromise between a 5 star product and a 2 star guide.

It's called an "age opener". Well my wife and I are the same age as the Junior Hills and we both had the same issue with the owner's manual. The instruction manual doesn't say anything about it, but this thing comes with a clear piece of plastic wrapped around the front of the cutting blade. There is a short message printed in black on the clear plastic, telling you to remove it before using the cutter. The black imprint is in front of two black areas on the metal body. It's very easy to…

I've seen reviews from others that this opener leaves metal filings on the edge of the can after opening. I thought maybe someone misused it or someone has a defective unit so I ordered it to be sure. Of course, the first and every can I opened with it had metal splinters on the outer edge of the can when I opened it. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and didn't get past one turn of the can, but I still got metal splinters every time. Luckily, the metal splinters stick out on the…

The knife can jam. suitable for electricians

At first I really liked the can opener. There are no sharp edges and it opened all cans with no problems. After two months he has NOT opened ANY cans. Absolutely none, even after (I thought) thorough cleaning. I will be in touch with Hamilton Beach shortly for a repair or replacement under the product warranty. Lets see what happens. Update: I have read the warranty carefully and realized that I am responsible for shipping BOTH ways for repair or replacement. Shipping will no doubt cost more…
