The reason I got it turned out to be a win for me. It is a refractory steel scraper (ferrocium rod), scale maker and knife sharpener all in one. The ceramic piece pulls out with little effort by rocking it back and forth, and you can easily carry it with you or in your pocket. The wide flat sides work well for a Scandinavian mesh knife, the blades will scrape chunks of refractory steel and will also easily scrape tinder and fine sawdust when reinserted into the handle, but you can do it without the handle too. BONUS - cleans my pit boss' smoking window! Should also work well as the ultimate scraper for tomahawk handles, ax handles, etc. Very durable, many uses.
