I was trying to find a device that acts as a USB2 host and not just a hub to ensure compatibility in a situation where I don't have USB3 support (only USB3 is on my system) This device is a simple concentrator. It uses the USB port in the ExpressCard slot as an upstream port and provides two downstream ports. It does not provide USB host; it uses the one already built into your device. He is clumsy; It has an uncomfortably large and unwieldy protrusion at the end of the card that doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than adding a few millimeters of bezel around each of the two output ports. I've seen many USB3 ExpressCards that would fit in two slots, or one slot and one power supply slot on the front of the 34mm ExpressCard (or two USB slots and power on the front of the 54mm ExpressCard. I know not sure if they draw additional current from the PCIe power pins on the ExpressCard port, but it does claim to supply up to 650mA than the overhead of a hub chip.) It's clearly very limited anyway - a flash drive, maybe a mouse. There is a connector that can be used to provide additional power, but it is not compatible with a standard USB connector for power delivery. (You might need to look it up.) On the plus side, it feels solid enough and the network connectivity is a thoughtful addition.
