Review on Mirabox HDMI Coax Extender Receiver Over Single RG59/RG-6U Coaxial Cable With F Type Coaxial Connectors,HSV375-RX by Aaron Charlton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Glad I gave it another chance!

tl;dr - couldn't get it to work with display adaptors, but works great and even supports other usb peripherals beyond keyboard and mouse. The first time I tried this product, I hooked it up to a NUC with a HDMI to mini-HDMI converter. I got no signal, no matter what configuration I tried. I swapped where the power was hooked up, used different ethernet cables, nothing helped. The instructions were no help either as they were poorly translated and didn't actually tell you how to hook everything up (only 1 power is provided, but both sides have ports for power). Frustrated, I put it in a corner and ignored it for a couple weeks.Recently though, I thought I would give it another chance and I'm glad I did. This time, I hooked it directly into a different computer with a full-size hdmi so there was no conversion. That seemed to be the trick, because the second I plugged the ethernet in (after hooking everything up to USB and HDMI) it lit up in no time and worked without any issue.Once it was working, I started to experiment with the USB connection. It turns out that it works with more than just a keyboard/mouse. I tried my Logitech receiver, a usb hub, and even a webcam. It all worked as though it was plugged directly into the computer. Even the webcam had very little lag (note: it was pretty low resolution, higher resolutions might introduce lag). The USB ports (as shown in the picture) are only pinned for USB2 so don't expect to plug in an external ssd and get full speed transfers. However, it's nice to know that I can plug in some additional peripherals beyond just a keyboard and mouse. One additional thing of note is that the ethernet cable length dictates what devices can be used. EX: Only HDMI will go further than HDMI and USB.

Pros
  • Cost-effective Solution: It is a cost-effective solution for extending HDMI signals over a coaxial cable
Cons
  • No customer support options available
