To turn the top light on or off, press and hold the TIMER and MODE buttons for 2 seconds. To turn the temperature display on or off, press and hold the TIMER button. and the DECREASE (-) button for 2 seconds. This heater works very well, it is able to heat my bedroom and bathroom to a very comfortable temperature. When it's 75 F outside my bedroom with this heater. What I really like is that it can both turn off automatically and turn on automatically. I like to set it to turn on an hour before you wake up so the room doesn't get cold. The remote control is great. My apartment is poorly insulated and the only time this heater has problems is when the wind is very strong, it takes longer to heat the room to the temperature I like. I don't use a thermostat so can't comment on that, I just keep it at 95 degrees and turn it on and off as needed and use the auto on/off at night. It's also quiet, there's a very gentle fan noise but very unobtrusive. Using an oscillator really helps spread the heat around the room. Thumbs up!
