As a homeowner I had to read the instructions multiple times to get everything clicked and working when you got it. The brass valve has a cold/warm air inlet and a shower/bath outlet. You will need to buy a PVC cap if you only use it for showering, which I did. They DO NOT supply this cap which I thought should as it is very cheap. Made 2 trips to Lowes as the first lid I bought was brass and didn't fit - it needed a PVC lid to seal the feed to my defunct tub. These PVC caps have a small lip that prevents the valve body from touching the cap. So I used washers to align these just below the mounting screws. Your project will most likely need shims for an accurate depth.
