Review on Desiccant Dehumidifiers - Premium Dry Packets for Improved Moisture Control by Jeremy Carpenter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bought these to keep my powder dry.

Everyone has seen "Do Not Eat" bags at some point. They are usually about the size of a bag of sugar and are packaged in plastic bags or boxes used to store fragile electronics and the like. These bags are designed to absorb moisture from the air surrounding the packaged device, increasing its survivability while it awaits sale and transportation. These bags are called "desiccant bags" and contain silica gel in the form of tiny, transparent beads. Many consider them disposable and throw them away after they are removed from the shipping box. Well, even after absorbing moisture, the silica gel beads in bags can be "charged" by soaking at low temperature and then reusing. But who cares about storing them, and what other uses could packages have? I've used, multiplied, and certainly never saved my *free* desiccant packs! I now use a special pigmented powder for coating metal parts instead of traditional liquid paint and the nature of this powder requires it to remain very dry. As received, powder paint spreads very well because it is dry packed and every time the powder container is opened air moisture can get in and cause clumping. My goal in purchasing these silica gel packs is to fit a pack or two in each powder container and maintain the "factory fresh" flow quality required for smooth and consistent application of this specialty material. Using packs is for prevention rather than correction of an already worsened situation, but I have a case where I can see a pack of Desiccant (X2) in action. A "thrifty" powder coat is a bit clumpy and I assume this is due to excess moisture. I placed two 2g packets in this container right after I received my load of desiccant. With the powder container securely sealed I would expect an improvement in the flow and consistency of this powder. Using these desiccant packs can only help and that is my expectation.
