Review on 18 AWG Silicone Wire 10Ft Red/Black - BNTECHGO Flexible Stranded Copper Cord by Keith Montague

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly as it says on the tin

I feels strange to write a review of a 10f piece of wire, but in a time where sellers will put any specs on their product to sell it the cheapest I am happy to say that this is not one of them.I received a quality ziptop package with the BNTECHGO-branded wire inside. The label on the outside clearly indicated what gauge wire was enclosed. The wire is very soft and easy to route around 3D printer parts. Stripping the end I found tons of strands inside too. Really the 20AWG wire is as soft as a cooked piece of spaghetti.I wondered about the claims of its wire gauge so I put it to a test. Current-limited power supply -> wire -> high wattage resistor. The current was cranked to 1.5A and the voltage drop along the 10ft piece of wire was measured. 169mV drop at 1517mA, 0.11ohms of resistance over 3 meters = 0.036 ohms per meter. 20AWG wire is 0.033 ohms per meter so this is within the tolerance of what I can effectively measure. It doesn't look like this is quite 10ft of wire though, more like 3 meters, but what's an inch either way?In short, this wire is exactly what it says it is, and it is definitely worth knowing what you're getting.

Pros
  • This wire is designed with a highly flexible silicone coating that allows for easy installation and manipulation around tight corners or angles, making it an excellent choice for intricate projects
Cons
  • May not be fire resistant
