2002 Olds Alero PassLock Ignition Lock Fix

We are most likely looking for a solution to the dreaded PassLock problem. From time to time my 2002 Olds Alero (97,000 miles) would make multiple attempts to start as if the engine was starving of fuel. And one of the days when I left Cosco, the car stopped on the way. Although I'm a humble shop mechanic with auto repair experience and do a lot of maintenance on my cars, I brought this to my favorite local shop. They replaced the fuel pump and said it was dead which I suspected and why I took it was because I didn't want to dump a fuel tank full of gas to replace the pump. However, gradually and more often after repairing the pump, the car did not start well, it just turned and nothing, but it always started after some time (sometimes up to an hour of attempts). Problem with PassLock and suspect this is a possible cause as I do. I'm here to tell you that after changing the ignition switch the problem is gone and the car even idles a bit better (probably because of the new fuel pump). The switch would be my best bet to fix in the first place if you suspect an issue with PassLock not starting. At $100, this is the cheapest and easiest repair. You can do it yourself, but it will take time and some pain. Search YouTube for an ignition switch repair video (for Olds Alero) that someone has uploaded that describes the repair step by step. Cheers, hope this helps someone.
