This is a MUST if you have Gigabit or faster internet. Most network cards and built-in Ethernet ports run just under a gigabyte and are unstable if there are defects in the cable. Before I got this card, my speeds varied between 500 and 900 Mbps using a CAT5E cable. After switching to CAT 8 cable and this 2.5Gbps NIC, I'm getting consistent speeds of over 1300Mbps. will be fine.
