This air conditioning control unit is a direct replacement for many mid 90's GM vehicles. I bought this unit to replace a faulty 22 year old climate control module on a 1998 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado. As already mentioned, this is a direct replacement - after opening the front panel and removing the old control module, this unit is immediately inserted. The optics correspond very closely to the OEM finish, the body color is comparable, the functional controls are placed in the same way and their "haptics" are good. I thought there were a few subtle differences - the AC and air recirculation buttons protrude a little further from the dash and feel looser than the OEM dash, but work just as well. The rotary controls also make a much more audible "click" than the OEM panel. but then my original control panel was 22 years old. When it was new it could have made a more noticeable noise. who can remember Rear panel connectors (3 separate multipin connectors) snap right into plug-and-play mode! And the module fit snugly and tightly into the dashboard (so nothing rattles or creaks) - all mounting points fit. After installation (but before collapsing the dashboard), a quick test showed that all controls worked exactly as expected. With the dashboard assembled, this climate control module looks every bit as good as the original and performs as it should, although only time will tell if it will last as the original. It seems strong enough - don't overstress it and it seems like it's holding up pretty well. Of course, we all know how unforgiving the environment in any car can be. Overall, this is a good alternative product. but I have a complaint - mainly because this [important] detail is not in the product description - anywhere. The module is equipped with a night light that illuminates (and dims) all areas like the OEM module, even the "position indicator strips" in the center of each luminous dial. exactly the same as OEM (please note that the lighting is an original bulb, not an upgraded LED). However, the panel glows a light blue tint which, although this color was used for instrument panel lighting on several GM vehicle models in certain years, is not the OEM color for the 1998 Chevy Silverado instrument panel and control panels. All my OEM trans-optic clusters glow white. Because of this oversight, I did not rate the product higher. According to the description it is for my car and looks great. until it gets dark when I turn on the ambient lights and everything else - except for the air conditioner - is white in the center of my dashboard.
