I used them to make a stand for wire and steel pipe. I plug a 1/2" IMC into 3/4" steel connectors that I drilled and tapped to use for the line to attach to the pipe as legs. It's a lot cheaper than what you can find at any hardware store. I couldn't find them in my local HD either. I'd love to order the ones that have shoulders just for depth and support, but that's not a big deal for my purposes. If you drill and cut your own holes for them, research the size of reamer required so they can actually screw into the drilled hole. You don't use a reamer with the same diameter as the screw. You will need to reduce the size to make room for the thread created by the reamer. Ask me how I learned that!
