To be honest, this article (as of the end of 2021) is still unique. Logically, nvme m.2 slots are *only* x4 PCIe slots, so the conversion to x4 SATA controller could be done without these products but with lots of crappy adapters. However, only with one controller and 5 SATA slots per m.2 is a brilliant move that I hope will become more popular. The device works great on Linux based servers where NAS capacity can be tripled by using all nvme slots on the server board. Given the accolades, the board is too flimsy and flimsy as other reviewers say. The SATA slots are also only soldered on their data connectors, making this product very sensitive and "one connected, never moved". The onboard SATA controller also gets very hot, which I fixed with a Raspberry Pi heatsink, but it *should* come with a heatsink (although that increases the price). There is no reason why a product should ship with 3 SATA ports when it says 5 SATA ports. The back of the board is bare and blank so I added thermal padding to prevent the board from bending too much. Finally, the nvme slots are x4 PCIe slots, add a heatsink and use all lanes IO Crest!tldr if possible; This product needs a second revision with a thicker PCB, improved solder connections, a massive heatsink on the controller and full use of 4x PCIe lanes.
