I was nervous about making this purchase because the reviews said it was firm. I'm used to medium/soft. But I needed a pillow that wasn't as thick as most pillows due to neck issues. I have neck arthritis, herniated disc and bone spurs. So I was desperately trying to find something that would relieve the pain I felt waking up every morning. I have to say I LOVE this pillow. I knew doctors recommended a firm mattress for back pain. For some reason I never thought of doing the same for my neck. I am very pleased to report that although this pillow is firm, it still offers contoured support. With a regular pillow, my neck collapses, leading me to believe that the pillow is really "hugging" my neck and head. But it doesn't really offer any support. This pillow kept my neck in place and my shoulders relaxed. I could even sleep on my side! For those of you looking for a pillow that will help with neck problems, this is what you need! Some of you may be used to soft plush pillows and may find this difficult to try. I do not recommend buying a regular hard pillow from the store as the filling is obviously very different from memory foam filling and gel foam pillows. There will not be the same effect. I say relax and try it, you won't regret it!
