I'll start with the positives: I think the unit works as advertised and the UV lamp has a small air inlet (fan?) to blow air around the lamp to disinfect it. Because UV-C requires direct contact with light, it may not be the best way to clean the air in an entire room unless the air is circulated at a much larger scale. It's just not enough to do everything alone. It may work in a bathroom or a small area, but when it gets there, a whole new problem arises. Limited outlet availability and plug design issues (please read on). The design has a polarized plug (which means one blade of the plug is larger and the other smaller) so it only fits into the outlet one way. In my case, this means the unit must be plugged into the bottom plug of the outlet and not the top plug, which also means it won't work in my bathroom outlet due to the lack of space between the outlet and the countertop. So I will use it elsewhere. I could probably live with that, BUT the design also takes up enough space that the base protrudes too far into the space of the top jack, rendering the top jack unusable for anything but small two-pronged plugs. So now I have 2 problems: the device has to hang down instead of up because of the polarized plug AND I can't use any other outlet because the device is sticking out and intruding into the space of the top outlet. The second problem really needs to be revised and eliminated. If I could make a suggestion I would make a 180 degree polarized plug so it could be plugged into the top or bottom outlet AND I would redesign the housing so that it doesn't block any other outlet at all when plugged into the bottom one outlet is plugged outlet. I don't have specs for the power requirements of this unit (I don't think it should be much to run a small supply air fan(?) and a small UV-C lamp), so the power supply polarity might just be an added safety feature in the Design I could live with if it didn't render both sockets so useless. _________ REVIEW UPDATE: _________- I don't know if the review has already been published. I was just writing it, but I need to clarify a few points in my description: The polarized plug on this device is designed to be rotated 90 degrees, allowing the device to be mounted in a side wall outlet (it can only rotate in one direction, not the other). This would allow it to fit my bathroom plug AND would probably allow me to use the top socket for another item with a small plug, like a curling iron, but not for my hair dryer as it also has large block polarized plug feeding . . But I don't want this unit sitting sideways in a bathroom outlet because I don't want the fan holes facing up when my first aid kit is directly above (too many choices for water or liquids/sprays/creams) . it) and be quiet). So the swivel needs to be rotated 180 degrees to install as shown in the picture. Also, the current design allows a small ungrounded plug to be used in a second outlet above the unit, but even my grounded computer plug (3-pin plug) is too large to fit in the top outlet on this unit. will be mounted in the bottom outlet unless it is side mounted which I don't want. The rest of my original review is below. We bought 2 of these units and neither of them are silent. The fan is fairly quiet but definitely noisy, and in our case one device makes a little more noise than the other. That's why we put a louder device at the entrance where we don't need complete silence and a quieter one in the TV room so that it doesn't disturb people while they relax and watch TV. Can't comment on deodorizing abilities yet but am planning to move one of the units to a small beachfront condo with higher humidity and some areas with mold issues to see if it can help kill those spores. The air conditioning is on there most of the year, so we hope it helps circulate the air around this unit more efficiently. If it works I will update the post. At the same time as purchasing these devices, I bought replacement bulbs, since a burned out bulb means that the device is no longer used. So light bulbs are a good and necessary option. Overall I love the concept and my only disappointment is not being able to use them everywhere I want due to design issues. ________ (I'll provide another update based on the comment on my review above) ______ I couldn't use this unit where I intended in the apartment. The outlet at the spot I wanted to use is already fully occupied, and the nearest outlet is connected to the overhead light circuit (both plugs in that outlet are connected to the light switch for some reason), so I placed it elsewhere Place. To attempt. I think the space is too big to change anything. Also this year we turned our thermostat down a degree to further reduce humidity throughout so a small shelf that had mold problems last year won't have problems this summer. I have a feeling this change has more to do with the temperature drop from the air conditioner than the UV filter as the humidity everywhere is about 12% lower now in the summer than last year and humidity is a HUGE factor in mold growth (to be clear, yes we have 2 portable humidists that we have installed in different rooms to control the humidity throughout the apartment so we are not just guessing the levels). The 2nd block is at the entrance and can work well there for 2 reasons: 1) The area is smaller so the device has a chance to contribute more for that reason alone. 2) Because of this, there is more environmental change in this area which opens and closes the front door (so the entry way sees more). Temperature difference, more humidity, more spores/pollen/etc. from the outside), allowing the filter to clean the air coming from both inside and outside. To answer the question asked in the comments I would still give 4 stars if it can be used in the right places. I must also say that I found the company easy to deal with when I had to recruit her. That's as important to me as the quality of their products because I judge a company by how well they support their products and customers after the sale, and this company has been very responsive.
