I don't often work with electrical wiring. But when you live in a house, you have to change something from time to time. I had a voltage tester but I really never remember what to set it to before touching the wires and I have to look up instructions every time. Time. This little pen is great. I was going around testing different things around the house and this thing clearly let me know if something was on or off. Since I usually swap things in place, I don't really need to know what the output voltage is - I just need to know that I actually disconnected a wire. Do not use this review as advice as it is the safest course of action. Not feeling too confident with electricity, I use electrical gloves for most wiring work. But I'm competent enough to connect the same wires to the same pins in a new outlet, or to rewire the wire through my house and connect the positive and negative wires the way I found the old one. If you are like that, you will probably love the simplicity of this model. There is no way to determine the voltage level. So if you need it, you need another tool. Wire cutters and wire cutters are more of a standard tool that you will find everywhere. Haven't used it yet but seems well made and will get the job done.
