Review on ASUS DRW-24B3ST/BLK/G: High-Speed SATA Optical Drive in Classic Black by Ruben Jamrock

I trust the ASUS brand when it comes to computer internals (like motherboards, graphics cards, etc.) so I decided to use their peripherals. It would be nice to do so. The DVD-ROM drive was packaged in a well-wrapped box, the drive was wrapped and then placed in a foam sleeve to keep it safe during shipping and handling. The kit also includes a CD with several programs, none of which are required to install and use the drive (this is on a Windows 7 computer). The package includes 4 mounting screws to attach to the computer case, but nothing else (no SATA cable, etc.). The installation is very easy and Windows 7 automatically recognizes the drive when booting and installs the appropriate drivers. As mentioned, the drive works without any software on the supplied disc, but the disc includes: E-Hammer which permanently removes the CD-R or DVD-R, E-Green which reduces power consumption and a 'free copy from Nero 9' - Note that the 'free' copy does not allow you to use the full set of Nero burning utilities and is somewhat abridged unless you purchase an upgrade to the full version. The drive is generally not that loud but still makes an audible noise when running. Burns CDs and DVDs quickly and error-free. The tray has good durability and does not feel flimsy. The green working LED is large enough to be seen but not intrusive. Overall a cool car for the money.
