I recently purchased this 8GB RAM (upgraded from 2GB) for my mid 2009 MacBook Pro). My old desktop iMac is now faster than my MacBook Pro. The update did speed up my MacBook Pro, but not as fast as I expected compared to half the memory on the old machine. Generally, once the computer is up and running, it runs smoothly and handles some applications well, but I still get that Apple rainbow circle from time to time, and the download still takes around 2-3 minutes as opposed to less than 1 minutes with my iMac. Knowing what I know now, I would probably look for the same brand of memory that I bought for the iMac. I also bought a new laptop battery which came in the same packaging. The new battery only lasts about 4 hours with normal use, which is disappointing as the original battery still lasted 1.5-2 hours after 9 years. On a positive note, both the memory and battery were SUPER easy to install and the battery came with the necessary screwdrivers for installation.
