Revainrating 5 out of 5

Which it won't. for computers and accessories

I have five of these devices and they all work fine. There is no noticeable loss of performance due to encryption. From the NAS to the USB 3.0 padlock, I've seen top speeds of 100MB/s. (800 Mbps), then the speed is reduced to 62 megabytes per second. I transferred a 2.6 gigabyte movie file in about 40 seconds. Pros: 1. With no software to install, it works with media players and should work anywhere you use a standard USB hard drive. I keep kids movies on a standard drive and mine on a lock. You don't have to worry about kids watching R-rated movies when I'm not around! 2. Using multiple passwords allows ten users to enter their own password using alphanumeric keys. This is very handy if you want to use a Windows password to access a drive. All other encryption devices I've tried only allow a user password or only have digital keys. A separate administrator password allows you to remove or add other users' passwords.3. Low Power Consumption - I was able to use the drive on any computer or media player I have without the included Y-power cable. What it doesn't do is the downside: 1. Although you can have multiple passwords, all users have access to the same data on the drive. It would be a real plus if access to the file could be controlled via the entered password.2. Restarting the computer locks the drive even if the drive is never turned off. I have a remote office and work a lot with remote desktops. Sometimes I need to reboot a remote computer and the data is not available from that drive after rebooting. To me this is a "breach of deal" and I need to use software encryption on a standard hard drive. It would be nice to have an additional program to lock and unlock the drive.

Pros
  • Uses FIPS PUB 197 military-grade encryption algorithm
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
