Review on Orange SUNLU Filament 1.75Mm - UV, Rain, And Heat Resistant Tough 3D Printer Filament For Outdoor Functional Mechanical Parts - 1Kg Spool (2.2Lbs) With 395 Meters by Alex Taylor

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I've used better ASA filaments

I have used several of SUNLU's filaments and have had no issues with their PLA or PETG versions so I figure they know what they're doing in this arena. The majority of my printing for the last 2 years has been functional outdoor hardware so I have moved to ASA filament because it is very strong and resists weathering very well. I have used 2 different vendors for ASA filament and have had no issues with either. I run them around 260 at the nozzle and 101 at the plate with about 10% fan speed with no enclosure and they both stick well and machine great.I used these same settings for the SUNLU ASA and while printing an object ( a 3.5 hour print) about 3 inches tall I noticed a severe de-lamination at about the 1 inch high mark followed by several more separations as the printer worked it's way up. I had printed about 60% of the part and had to pull the plug since it was wasted. Knowing that I had never had an issue with SUNLU before I decided to re-print the item making sure to not run the fans at all (Some ASA can be kind of tricky with air moving around it). The results were better but I could still see micro de-laminations between 1 inch and 2 inches high. At this point, I unloaded the SUNLU ASA and re-installed one of my other ASA rolls, went back to my original settings, and printed the part 100% with no issues.

Pros
  • Printed very well wasn't as difficult to get dialed in as other brands.Good price and shipping.
Cons
  • Bubbles in prints on the same day as arrival. Quality control must be dipping.
