This Ken tool is the perfect length for the initial prying of a stiff tire on a touring bike that hardly flexes. Keep in mind that a few small flat tire tools are also needed, but this one starts the process. For example, you will need three tire changing tools as well as about 8 1 inch pieces of wood cut into 2 inch squares to hold the bead away from the rim so you can get a pry bar under the tire bead. The other two brackets prevent the bead of the tire from slipping off after lifting. The wooden squares hold the bead on the other side opposite at 180 degrees from the wheel, allowing more room to pry off the bead with this ken tool. A rigid tire will not slide easily on the rim unless there is lubricant on the wheel. Silicone spray is great for this. Remember that changing a big hard tire on a touring bike for the first time is a daunting task. It gets easier after you go through the process (with a lot of swearing) the first time. I also use balance balls instead of wheel weights. You will understand.
