Easy way to see power in an outlet vs a voltmeter It's awkward to insert probes into an outlet It's faster and easier and if you have a bad neutral wire you'll read 50V and it's there to see right away so it makes observing the voltage instantly a lot faster than a multimeter, still doesn't check for other problems like ground issues etc, it's only meant to determine if you have 120V in the outlet , it is recommended, great time saver
