Let me first say that this is a really good product. This is a bit unconventional, as it doesn't fit common practice to embed a camera in a doorbell. Instead, it connects your Arlo system's camera to it. Pros: Comes with everything needed for installation including a screwdriver. - Motion sensor works well - Integrates well with existing wired doorbells. - support of smartphone applications, including duplex voice communications - pre-programmed doorbell responses - does not count towards your camera total - can be used as a panic button for home security or elderly surveillance Cons - smallest screwdriver head is wrong size (too big) - not included when wiring comes not straight out of the wall. If (like me) your legacy doorbell wire needs to be routed from one side, the doorbell isn't great for that. Basically, it is not mounted exactly on the wall surface. That means you'll either have to dig a channel in the wall or find a way to raise it above the surface so you can run cables underneath. I'm sure they will be developed by different vendors over time. Personally, a few hours with the CAD package and my 3D printer solved the problem. - Nothing else is done when using motion notification. When you connect a camera to a doorbell, the doorbell may detect movement but the camera may not because it's too far away. In this case, it would be nice if the doorbell could trigger the camera recording. - The documentation for the old doorbell switch settings is confusing. Basically it's too easy. In New Zealand none of the scenarios described in the guide exist. So it all boiled down to a "best guess" that turned out to be wrong. Essentially, the setting of the switch determines whether the contacts operate in normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO) mode. - can't personalize the smartphone ringing when the doorbell is pressed as my smartphone is set to "ring" (like a phone call), doorbells are also confusing. The only way to tell the difference is to look at the screen before answering. - a clearly audible "hang up" sound immediately after pressing the doorbell As a phone technician I understand what's going on, but based on my industry knowledge I also know it's overkill. - The integration with the Android application is fragmented. It's as if two different departments (camera and doorbell) have developed an integration into the application. The doorbell definitely has a different position than the cameras in the app. Maybe this issue will be fixed in a future version of the app. - Cannot initiate voice communication from apps like cameras. Voice communication works only after pressing the button. If someone is hanging around your door but hasn't pressed the button, then you're probably out of luck. - The surround doorbell will flash when motion is detected. In addition to draining battery power, it also provides a visual indication to an intruder that it has been detected. Of course, this may be the intended point. But it would still be nice to make a choice. Finally, I would like to point out that the doorbell has only recently been released, so I am sure that there will be many more improvements and bug fixes to come. Then of course I'm sure the folks at Arlo are also hard at work developing the Doorbell Pro as we speak. Addendum 9/18/20 I recently discovered another scam. FREE online storage and FREE NOTICE are provided with the Arlo Pro 3 camera system for the first 3 months only. After that, a monthly fee will be charged based on the number of cameras you have. This means that remote notifications, including doorbells, will NOT work unless you select your current monthly fee. One of my comrades installed a professional CCTV system. He can connect to it remotely at any time, view his locally stored recordings and receive doorbell calls. all of this is FREE. The only thing about Arlo is that it can be installed anywhere thanks to its battery operated and cordless design. Needless to say, this situation is rubbish, so I'm looking for a suitable replacement. Wireless design means it can be installed anywhere.
