We drilled two holes side-by-side in the ice to compare the Garmin ($3,000) versus the Ricanks handheld ($40) for depth and fish-detection accuracy. Well, compared to the top of the Garmin range, the reading depth was 100% accurate. The only thing, and of course Garmin, you could see the fish taking your bait and the Ricank finder doesn't claim it. While ice fishing, it didn't detect any fish lurking on the bottom that could be seen on Garmin, but as soon as the fish approached our lure at 6 to 12 inches from the bottom, the Ricank sonar beeped. Honestly I'd be happy with that if the only thing that worked was $40 depth which I expected to donate money to but while Garmin is watching TV this Rickank was damn good for spotting fish swimming in or out to be of the ground. I would say buy
