It has to be metal! Why isn't it metal? I manage a condominium that has about a dozen of these Moen PosiTemp valves. In each of them it was the first turning point. Any resistance created by the calcium/scale will be taken up by that plastic part through the handle and the rod will break within a year or two. But perhaps this is an overview of most of the plastic-filled Moen products these days. Their lifetime warranty is way too slow, so you don't need to buy those spares anyway. Congratulations Moen, I'm buying another plastic part that will soon break again in another device! I'm happy to pay a few cents more for metal.
