Problem solved. for rough plumbing

The cartridge in my shower valve lasted 14 years. Unfortunately after such a long time it was almost impossible to remove the grip as the set screw was rusted and wouldn't budge. I had to dig up. The new cartridge and handle are already in place and ready to use for the next 14 years. This kit is used for preventative maintenance. This time I plan to replace the adapter and screws before they rust. When you start to feel play in your grip, you know it's time for a new adapter. Spending $5 and 5

Enough of this plastic waste!

It has to be metal! Why isn't it metal? I manage a condominium that has about a dozen of these Moen PosiTemp valves. In each of them it was the first turning point. Any resistance created by the calcium/scale will be taken up by that plastic part through the handle and the rod will break within a year or two. But perhaps this is an overview of most of the plastic-filled Moen products these days. Their lifetime warranty is way too slow, so you don't need to buy those spares anyway…

SLOP and a fundamental design flaw causing the handle to come loose

I think Moen's engineering department screwed that up. There is a fundamental problem with this grip adapter, which is that there is too much protrusion between this adapter and the brass end of the cartridge shaft. The mud transfers all the torque applied to the handle (if you use the handle) to the bolt. You will never be able to tighten the screw enough to withstand the torque on the handle.
