I thought I might ditch my old brewing protocol, which was: ° Start the coffee maker without inserting the carafe. ° Allow half the brewing process to run in the coffee basket ° Stir the patina ° Insert the carafe and wait for the brewing process to finish ° Enjoy fully extracted, freshly roasted coffee Obviously not with this coffee maker. I'm keeping it because I like it, but it just doesn't do what I was hoping it would. You see, I drink very fresh coffee, brewed just days after it's roasted, and thriving in it is part of life. With a heavy patina, all of your coffee qualities won't be extracted unless you invert it and stir it to soak it through the coffee grounds. Also, I think the water sleeve should be longer, long enough to spray water all over the coffee bed. While still sticking to my old-school brewing protocol, I've raved about this coffee maker for a while - it's beautiful and works pretty well. Oh yes, by the way TechniVorm, in the USA, 4th floor. An ounce is NOT a cup of coffee. It's a double espresso at best; cup of coffee 8 oz. at least.
