The clamping unit is solid and well-machined. I could feel no burrs or rough edges. The cushioning pads have a little give to them, which is what you want.The unit comes with no instructions. Including well written instructions is a good way to prevent unsatisfied customers who don't understand how to use the clamp as intended. Writing a good set of instructions, with well constructed diagrams, forces the company to look at the product from a novice customer's perspective. A product isn't very useful if the customer doesn't understand how to use it. Instructions convey to the customer that the manufacturer cares about the customer and their experience.On the unit that I received two of the set screws needed to be tightened down to prevent one half of the unit from separating from the other half. I don't know whether this was done intentionally or not.
